Agenda

GeoRabble is an all-inclusive, informal industry forum of geo-obsessed people who want to celebrate the real work done by people using location information; unfiltered by government and private company agendas and industry politics.

This presentation by GeoRabble aims to lubricate your geo-thinking and help you understand the benefits and challenges of working with geospatial data.  It’ll also dive into the Open Source tools and libraries that are available to help you deliver geo-information via the desktop and the Web.

To satisfy those itching for more – there’ll also be a detailed run though of a sample geospatial web app using an HTML5/PHP frontend with PostgreSQL at the backend, utilising Creative Commons licensed ABS Census data.

Speaker Bio - Hugh Saalmans

Hugh has worked heavily with geospatial information across various industries, locally and overseas, for over 18 years.  During this time his work has included senior roles in IT consulting, pre-sales, product management and technical marketing.  More recently, he has worked to deliver geocoding and natural perils risk ratings products to the Insurance industry.  He is currently responsible for the development of IAG Direct Insurance’s geospatial information capabilities and is a member of the GeoRabble Sydney organising committee.
