Agenda

Bitcoin spectaculary came to mainstream prominence a few months ago when a US senator raised (specious) concerns about it being used to anonymously procure drugs over the internet.

Come along for a lively discussion about fiat money, how it is created, central banking, quantitive easing, and what bitcoin can do about it all.

From a computing perspective, Alan will discuss the public key cryptography behind bitcoin, demonstrate the bitcoin desktop client and then go on to demonstrate the process of actually generating bitcoins - mining!  This will be an in-depth discussion around modern GPU's, setting them up, and presenting a couple of the most popular mining software solutions.

If you are thinking about mining (or are a gamer), then you may also be interested in a discussion around the different chipsets in popular NVidia and ATI/AMD offerings and Alan's own mining rig.
